Catherine H. Gallagher Cooperative Housing
Heath Street, Roxbury, Massachusetts
This project received the prestigious "Fannie Mae Design Award". When Vertec began building the Catherine H. Gallagher Cooperative Housing project in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood, this 34 unit city-owned lots had been vacant for over 40 years. Today, these attractive buildings provide affordable housing to a diverse group of residents in seven affordable housing facilities, including two-and three-family houses and a 20-unit apartment building. The first two stories of the facade is a red water struck brick featuring ornamental pre-cast work. The upper floors have a pre-finished hardy-plank siding with wood panels and trim are used throughout. The apartment building features an attractive architectural steel drive-through arch that leads to a rear parking area.
